Not worth my time, I make more than $5.39/hour, rather get to my destination (typically work) faster. Of course with safety and laws still in mind.

My mother has a Grand Marquis with a V8 and she thinks she gets better MPG than I do and I think she is right.

Driving slowly I only got about 24 mpg and about 32mpg on a long 200 mile trip. Going to work was about 80% clear freeway and 20% clear city driving. Disappointed with the MPG'S, sticker was 27 city and 34 or 37 highway.

I drive Twin City streets only in the good weather seasons and usually well out of rush hour times. Still, the continually flow impresses me as Winnipeg loves a good set of stop lights every 300 feet because we all know that when no one moves, no one gets hurt. I can understand your winter woes especially if you don't live on a 'chosen' street so rarely see a snow plow. We have great plow service that takes care of back lanes after snow falls but I don't have a lane so usually see the plow long after our street has finally been packed down and is once again usable. I think we can agree that summer (or anytime in Arizona) driving is far, far better than travel in the white season.

Other sources say we are not doing so bad here. Ever drive 494 on a weekday? Excellent roadways? I guess that depends upon the time of year and what city you are driving in. Some of the suburbs might have their streets excellently cleared of snow from curb to curb but there are other areas where you are lucky to have enough room for two cars to pass each other halfway through the winter. Most cars require driving on a somewhat unobstructed interstate for 100 to 200 miles to enable the ECM to learn and adjust to the higher speed and conditions.

I've always enjoyed the excellent roadways in the area. Driving in Arizona certainly sounds a lot better than the winter ice & snow stuff you're used to. With those warm winter driving conditions, I don't think I'd even worry about mileage, or winter clothes, or window scrapers, or block heaters, or winter tires, or extension cords, or the rest of the white winter silliness.

The best tank ever was 26.58 MPG, 2nd best was 25.44 MPG. Those were tanks of mostly highway driving. Most of the rest of my driving however is done in the city, Minneapolis is ranked as having some of the worst traffic in the nation. We also get extreme cold weather and we have winter blend fuel. All of that for me contributes to a average MPG of 18.42 so far this year with the 2012 Fusion. The MPG display in the information center display throws out all kinds of numbers, high ones when I am coasting and low ones when I am stuck in slow traffic but overall the MPG I get from this car (I do not really blame the car, it is the driving environment) sucks. They used the left lane as a "passing lane". They drove in the right hand lane, chased the car in front of them, tailgated for awhile, then suddenly merged into the left lane dangerously close to cars already in the left lane. They did not accelerate to the speed of cars in the left lane, so everyone in the left lane had to hit their brakes. Then they drove alongside the vehicle that they were "passing" for miles and miles . . . eventually pulling ahead & getting into the right lane again. Given that this was on roads with only 2 lanes, it was both frustrating & dangerous. Why the prevalence of this behavior among Prius drivers? There aren't many Prius on the road compared to other vehicles.

Just for info the 3cyl Metro used so little fuel that we had to drain the tank or the fuel got stale!

Most of it on Oregon Rt 97. That Focus got 42 mpg with no effort at economy on my part. I've had Focus rentals before. This latest model is not quite as peppy as earlier models but has a far better transmission. I'll take the trade off of slightly less oomph for better mileage and the slick transmission. Also the exterior body is superb, really slick. Interior is kinda plasticy though. If considering a Focus try to upgrade the cabin materials if possible.

Still 50.7 is amazing. Ford should do a hybrid version of this ford and crush the prius.

Based on my Ford experience your 50.7 will be 40 to 45 MPG with a calculator. OTOH the Prius is pretty good. Its usually 2 MPG high at 50 MPG but I've never found another as accurate.

The computers tend to be optimistic to overly optimistic and the only way to tell true MPG is by doing your own math.

However, I'd just modify it in addition to keeping the speed under 75 mpg and I know I'll get over 55 mpg out of it. Plus, I'll set up a hydrogen generator correctly and get over 60 mpg out of it no problem.

As far as posted limit, hmmm, not sure, don't see too many signs, in fact you don't see too much of anything but open land. Exits are 30 miles apart or more. Nothing in between. The mountain west is a pretty open place.
