Yes, or no one goes anywhere. It's good sense and also a liability issue, even though adults get the tickets themselves.

Yep the go don't go until the passengers have their belts on. I don't want any tickets or points on the insurance or dead or badly injured passengers in the event of an accident.

YES because in FL, if I am stopped and any of my front seat passengers are un-belted... guess who gets the ticket? The driver, the person "in control" of the vehicle. In FL, and in many other states, not wearing seat belts is not a "secondary" offense, it is now a "stoppable" offense. And the fine is usaully about a hundred bucks!

In some states, seat belt violations are a primary offense- meaning you can get pulled over if anyone in the car is not wearing a seat belt. And it's the driver who gets the ticket.

With the way I drive, my passengers would be nuts if they don't buckle up! =:-D If they don't like it, the sidewalk is available on most streets!

Why yes, yes I do. I tell them if they really don't want to put it on..don't. But, if the police should stop me, and hand me that almost $300 ticket, I tell said passenger that they will be paying it...not me. Seatbelt goes on.

Yes. It is a primary offense in South Carolina chargeable to the driver of the vehicle. It is heavily enforced here. That said, even if it wasn't, my vehicle will not move unless ALL passengers are securely belted in.

I always buckle up and Illinois law about back seat passengers buckling up was just enacted so they must buckle up too. A VP from the company I worked for at the time cussed because I wouldn't drive until everyone was buckled up since it was a company car and company policy. The car didn't move until he buckled up.

My neighbour doesn't wear seat belts. However, if he rides with me, he doesn't argue, he just does it up, and if I ride with him, he still does it up. He won't ever argue with me about it because he knows I don't move the car if passengers aren't buckled up, and I won't ride with a driver who isn't buckled up.

My line is "adjust the seat anyway you want, there's a bar on the front and a lever on the side - the belt is hanging right next to it" Can't remember a time that didn't work but I usually hang / work with people with brains in their heads and they want to keep them there. I drive briskly as well - safely and with good equipment for doing so. I've had a couple of folks clip in after a couple of blocks in the GT!

I think there's been a change in PA law. You can get stopped solely for no seat belt. Now, who gets fined, the driver or the offender?

I nag them and tell them they will be responsible for the ticket and any increase of insurance if my rates increase.
It is a law in Illinois, and the driver is responsible.
Most people have the seat belt on before I do..

No, I just don't put the vehicle in gear till they do. It's their choice, but it would be my ticket.

I make everyone wear their seatbelts when I'm driving. If they refuse, then I make sure to do a sudden slam on the brake somewhere (usually at the end of the driveway) to show them why they need it! It works best when they sit in the middle rear "ejection" seat... It's amazing how quickly they buckle up after that.

It's the law to wear a seat belt. It's also a safety factor. If the vehicle should be in a severe accident; anyone not belted could become a projectile. Around 1980 a few blocks from me, 3 young people were not wearing seatbelts and they were in a bad crash. The two guys died, and the girl died only because she had a "dead weight" body on her. She suffocated to death.
If they would have been wearing their seatbelts; I don't know if the guys would have survived the crash, but she would have.
I also don't keep loose stuff in the vehicle; they could become a hazard too.
