I would love to know what you think. I'm considering buying a 2012, which I heard is better on gas, a little quieter, and up 22 hp. Thanks

My father owns one.....I really can't speak for his experience......one reason is because his hearing is shot.

Thanks everyone for your opinion, I think they are so cute. In my opinion, I do not like how the Nissan Cube, Scion xB or Honda Element look. I drive a Wrangler now in winter and the choppy, rough ride is nice. If I wanted smooth, there are other choices, plus the Kia has 10yr/100k mile warranty.

well, kkkaz, i thought you wanted a better perspective by looking at some owners of this vehicle...

most of the replies are funny, though...

i'm glad they switched to a timing chain after many years of timing belt pre-failures

There not bad . i know a few people that have and love them . the ride on a choppy road is a little rough but no more than any SUV . KIA has come along way with there quality . I would drive one if one came along at the right price

A co-worker of mine has one and he really enjoys it. Drive one for yourself and see if you like it. Make sure to drive it on all the types of roads you would on a daily basis. Happy hunting.

My sister has one and loves it. A local dealership had 50% of last month's sales as Soul's. My friends there also commented that Element owners who can no longer buy a new Element are showing interest. I have a Rallye Red 05 Element with only 173K miles - it is my soul.

why on earth would you buy a piece of junk Korean car? I already tried that route and my 91 Hyundai failed miserably.

Ugly, poorly made...you would do better with the new 2013 Ford Escape.

why don't you go to your car-specific forums for more info?

not everyone drives that car

here's one good reason

~quote~ think these rigs are so smooth and quiet that I hear things I never did before. My idle has ocassionally felt a bit more "rough" than usual, but it has never felt like it was going to stall, and don't feel it is worth being concerned about. That growl at startup sounds like the electric power steering starting up for the first time of the day.

You do know the 2012 Souls have electric power steering and not the old belt driven hydraulic pump, right? That would be an odd noise we aren't used to hearing as we all grew up with cars having belt driven power steering pumps. Valve rattle at startup is also pretty common across the board on all cars.

And the new Souls use a timing chain and not the rubber belts of yesteryear, hence some "chain noise". That is why newer carmakers, like Kia, call for light oil (5W20) in the engines. Cold oil doesn't flow well. I'd use even lighter oil (0W20), but don't want to get in a pissing match regarding my warranty down the road somewhere. ~quote~
