The price of a gallon of regular-grade gasoline is now the lowest it has been since Jan. 23 across the country. It is $3.43 a gallon, down another 9 cents this week, the 12th straight week of declines in the government's recent weekly survey.

This week also marks the first time gas has slipped below $3.50 a gallon in the the Energy Information Administration's survey since February.

What's more, the decline comes at an unusual time: The summer driving season has just begun, traditionally the time when gas prices are highest. Prices for regular gas are now 13.7 cents below the same week last year.

USA TODAY reported Friday that prices could fall below $3 a gallon by Halloween -- and just before the presidential election. Production is up, and inventories are at a 21-year high.

Today I paid 2.98 a gallon at Hess. I am so excited. Every day gas prices have been going down in this area.

However, Oblame-a's reign over the longest period in US history of gasoline prices ABOVE $3.00 remains intact since Dec 27, 2010. That's 98 weeks and counting folks.

Now Bush on the other hand, when faced with gasoline over $4.00, never saw a stretch of over $3.00 gasoline last more than 34 weeks and the price was down to a national average of $1.59 the week of DEC 29, 2008.

When they get below $2/gallon, then we can start to breathe easy again.

Had to do a survey to see that? Pretty poor reporting or a slow news day!
