When doing delivery work as a courier, I rely totally on a Garmin GPS.
When planning ahead for a scheduled trip, I look at a Google map on the computer to get an overview. But I always depend on my very reliable Garmin.
I regularly download the quarterly updates, so my maps are the latest. I report discrepancies so the electronic maps are as reliable as possible.
Recently I have used my iPhone on occasion. Pretty good usually, but not as nice as my 2005 Garmin Model 2820. The Garmin simultaneously displays arrival time, distance, and travel time. Also, has a screen for average speed, average moving speed, moving time, travel time, and lots more.

Portable GPS, Garmin in this case, and iPhone, with paper maps still in the door side pocket, just in case, as long as AAA provides.

For my most recent trip (on Friday):
It was primarily Mapquest and Google Maps. (For the "planned" part)
For the return trip I was told to take a different (direct?) route... which I hadn't printed out.
In that case I went off of "prior verbal directions" and partially using my Smart Phone's Google Maps (with GPS function) program to make sure I was on course.
